Frequently Asked Questions

Adopt a Spot is a program where volunteers and park staff work together to care for flower beds at Nielsen’s Grove Park.

It’s free! Park staff provides the plants and signs for each bed. Donations are always welcome.

Any individual or group may participate: businesses, civic groups, families, neighborhoods, religious organizations, youth groups, etc.

Gardening has many health benefits; and being out in nature can lower stress.  Whether you choose to work individually or in a group setting, your efforts are appreciated and will contribute to the beautification of your community.

Participants will have their name added to the Adopt a Spot Section of the volunteer web page. Photo submissions of participants are encouraged.

Nielsen’s Grove Park is located at 1931 S Sandhill Road in Orem.

The adoption period is from March through November of each calendar year.

It depends on you. This is a self-paced opportunity and depends on the size of the adopted spot.  A minimum of two visits per month is recommended.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.  For sun protection, wear sunscreen and sunglasses.

A water bottle, gardening gloves, trowel, pruning snips, and trash bags are recommended.  Tools and trash bags can also be borrowed through the Tool Lending Library located at the Public Works building.
